Itinerary Overview
Day 1: Evening transfer to Hanoi station for overnight train to Lao Cai
Day 2: Transfer to Sapa, afternoon touring;
Day 3: Private tour of hill tribe villages;
Day 4: Morning at leisure, overnight train back to Hanoi
Day 1: Hanoi – Lao Cai (By overnight train)
In the evening your guide will pick up & bring you to the Hanoi Station for getting on the train to Lao Cai, depart at 21:10. Overnight on train in a superior 4-berth compartment sharing with other passengers.
Day 2: Lao Cai – Sapa (B/L/-)
The train arrives at the Lao Cai train station at approximately 6:00am, you will be transferred to Sapa. Once at Sapa, you will check in to your hotel (early check-in subject to availability) and have breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant. After breakfast, your guide will show you around for a brief introduction of this charming town. At the Sapa market, ethnic minority people of different groups wearing their traditional costumes made by themselves comes every day selling local products includes vegetable, bamboo shoot, mushroom, medicinal herbs and souvenirs…There are chances for making acquaintance and taking photos. Lunch at local restaurant.
In the afternoon, taka a short drive to the hill tribe villages of Cat Cat, home to the H'mong ethnic minority peoples. You will have the opportunity to see the villagers working on the paddy fields and their animals, such as: chickens, water-buffaloes and pot-bellied pigs. You can also see the old hydro-electric power station which was built by the French time in the early 20th Century, and a beautiful waterfall that is a good place for resting and taking pictures. Day 3: Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van – Sapa (B/L/-)
After breakfast, proceed on a 30 minutes drive to Lao Chai village (06 kms from Sapa), which is inhabited by the Black H’mong hill tribe. Upon arrival in Lao Chai, we trek through terrace rice fields and the village from Lao Chai to Ta Van - the only village in the Sapa valley where the Giay hill tribe lives. We spend time looking around the village, you have the opportunity to share cultural experiences with the families that live in the area. Finally, we head backup the valley to meet with our car for the return trip to Sa Pa. Balance of the day is free at your leisure. Overnight at hotel in Sapa.
Day 4: Sapa – Lao Cai - Hanoi (B) By overnight train
Moring at leisure to enjoy Sapa town. In the afternoon, there will be a transfer to Lao Cai station for the train back to Hanoi departure at 19.35 - 06.00. Overnight on train in a superior 4-berth compartment sharing with other passengers.
Optional visit a weekly colourful tribal market. If the date falls on Tuesday (Coc Ly market), Saturday (Can Cau market) and Sunday (Bac Ha market, Muong Hum market): Bask in the vibrant colours of traditional hill tribe costumes. This is a good place for taking photos and learning about the culture of the hill tribes living in the area. Meet the friendly people, buy some souvenirs and enjoy lunch before you leave for Lao Cain train station.
You arrive Hanoi at around 5 am the following day. Tour ends at Hanoi Train Station.
Taxis will not be in short supply, our guide will help you to organise transport from the train station back to your hotel. It might be a little too early to check in at some hotels, so you can leave your luggage at reception and enjoy breakfast overlooking Hoan Kiem Lake. You could follow this active Sapa tour with something a little more relaxing, such as Halong Bay Cruise. Alternatively, you could choose to spend a further few days in Hanoi, taking various day trips beyond the city limits. Or, after your Sapa tour you you can head south via Hue & Hoi An.
