There are three most beautiful time to take the great photo of breathtaking terrace rice field in Mu Cang Chai: at the beginning of the crop, in the middle of the crop with amazing green terrace rice field and around the harvest time with beautiful golden terrace rice field. The popular attraction of Mu Cang Chai lies in its terraced rice fields which are primarily situated in the district’s La Pan Tan, Mam Xoi, Che Cu Nha and De Zu Phinh villages.
There is only one crop per year in Mu Cang Chai and it takes place from June to October. In June, when the first summer shower coming to the North of Vietnam, hill tribe people in Mu Cang Chai all come to their field for preparing the new crop of rice. As all the field in Mu Cang Chai are terrace rice field so they all need to supply water from the top terrace of the field, and water from there just keep coming from top to the bottom of the rice field, and local people call this “falling water reason”. In this season, you will see allots of activities of people working on the field, from plough to harrow on the field with water buffalo, replanting rice. Normally they work in group with very beautiful and colorful clothes of hill tribe woman, and it can be very interesting for very good photo shooting on the field in this period.
The middle of the crop will be from June to middle of September. During this time, the whole tremendous terrace rice field in Mu Cang Chai will be covered by lovely and peaceful carpet of rice. The color of green on the field even can cool you down in the hot summer sun. You will not see much local people activities on the field in this season, but the greenness of the rice field can be very good compensation.
In the harvest time of the rice crop, travelers take the visit to Mu Cang Chai from late September to early October to see and take photographs of waves of terraced rice fields, as this is when the fields turn brilliant yellow and shine in their fullest beauty.

Hanoi – Yen Bai - Tu Le – Mu Cang Chai Rice Terraces – Sapa – Hanoi

Day 1: Hanoi – Yen Bai – Nghia Lo (L/D)
You will be met up with Ha Long Tour & Service team at your hotel in Hanoi and start journey to Nghia Lo, Yen Bai. On the road, we will visit in Suoi Giang Commune, Van Chan district to admire the hundreds of years old – ancient tea trees, which make up the specialty Tea San Snow. The wild tea trees growing in the high mountains, plus a cool climate all year round haze tea flavor in particular. Then leave Suoi Giang, continue going to Nghia Lo. Arrive at Nghia Lo town, check in our homestay at a peaceful village of Thai people. Rest on a traditional stilt house. In the afternoon, we discover the daily life of the ethnic community in the area and enjoy the beautiful scenery of villages and rice fields. Dinner and overnight at the homestay.
Day 2: Nghia Lo – Tu Le - Mu Cang Chai (B/L/D)
You will be surprise before the wonderful rice terrace belong the route from Nghia Lo to Mù Cang Chải. Run over the Khau Pha pass (one of the four greatest passes in Northern Vietnam with 40km, connect Tu Le and Mu Cang Chai). We’ll cross Tu Le town, you’ll have chance to see the interesting activities of Thai women in Tu Le making the “Com – green rice” – the famous special product of Tu Le belong your road in the harvest season. Most scenic roads which offer a lot of stops for picturing as the view point to see the Lim Mong, Lim Thai village or paragliding-point on the top of this pass.
This afternoon, enjoy trekking tours around La Pan Tan commune, explore the life & musical of Mong people. Continue trekking from La Pan Tan village to enjoy Mam Xoi rice terrace of H’mong people in Mu Cang Chai. Visit some schools and touch with children. Beside seeing the beauty of rice field, you’ll guided how to plant rice, harvest rice or discover the farm working of locals. It will be exciting experience. Enjoy stunning landscapes along the way, the stunning views of countryside and nature, visit local villages, experience daily life of hill tribe people, how to make traditional clothes or H’mong people… Sleeping at Homestay at Mu Cang Chai.
Day 3: Mu Cang Chai – O Quy Ho Pass - Sapa (B/L)
Have simple breakfast and continue to explore more the ethnic village around Mu Cang Chai. Then the car will drive you to Sapa, pass over O Quy Ho pass, one of the four greatest passes in Vietnam where you can enjoy fresh and cool air and nice landscapes. It will be unforgettable experience. Arrive at Sapa town in late this afternoon, check in your hotel. Accommodation at hotel in Sapa.
Day 4: Trekking – Lao Chai – Ta Van (B/L/D)
From Sapa, walking down hill to Muong Hoa valley it is the most beautiful valley in Sapa, in there you will discover the basic life mountain minority people in Viet Nam, on the way we can see many kind of animal such as buffalos black pigs, chicks, ducklings...you can touch or take a picture them, and then go in their home has a seat to talk with them about their culture, lunch in there. Then we continue to amazing rice terrace field and stop in the house of Zay people. In everning you have a diner and drink some rice wine as well as discover their cultures with friendly family. Sleep in homestay.
Day 5: Sapa – Hanoi (B/L)
We continue up hill to bamboo forest with many point for nice pictures and then walking down to waterfall you can swim near there with many local children. Lunch in local restaurant and take a bus back Sapa town for shower and drive back to Hanoi. End of service.
